Robert M. Amparán

Amparán is a criminal defense attorney currently based in San Francisco, California. He became notable for successfully defending former JonBenet Ramsey murder suspect John Mark Karr, along with defense team attorneys Gayle Gutekunst and Ben Prince, in his legal battle with the state of California on child pornography charges. After a series of defense motions, the case was eventually dismissed.

A former member of the San Francisco Public Defender's Office, Amparán specializes in criminal defense and fighting involuntary commitment.

Amparán has been practicing law in the State and Federal Courts for over twelve years. He practiced in the same offices as famed defense attorney J. Tony Serra.

                                      BEN PRINCE - After completing his
                                        undergraduate studies in composition at the
                                        Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio, Ben
                                        worked all over the country as an entertainer
                                        and music educator before settling in
                                        San Francisco in 1999, where he continues
                                        to moonlight as a pianist, singer, stage
                                        musical director, and recording engineer.
   
Ben attended the University of California Hastings College of The Law, where he graduated in 2004 in the top 25 percent of his class.
While at Hastings, Ben served as student co-chair of the school's award-winning Moot Court/Legal Research and Writing program, and was instrumental in bringing home several national awards for appellate advocacy. In 2002, Ben's team won the National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition at Pepperdine University.
 
During law school, Ben worked as an intern at the San Francisco Public Defender's office, where he participated in several felony trials. Ben also worked for two years as a law clerk at the Sapiro Law Firm, where he assisted in civil matters covering a wide range of legal areas including construction defect, real estate, probate, and tax cases. Immediately upon passing the bar, Ben took over representation of a plaintiff in a copyright infringement suit in federal court in Los Angeles, and negotiated a favorable settlement for his client. 

Since joining the Law Office of Robert M. Amparán in July of 2005, Ben has worked on state and federal criminal cases throughout Northern California, and assisted Mr. Amparán in successfully defending John Mark Karr in Sonoma County. Ben is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and Bay Area Lawyers for Individual Freedom.
